THOUGHTS ON PAINTING
The sunflowers in the Sunflowers Painting seem to have been colored with the blazing rays of the sun itself. Their petals are fierce with bright yellow, intense orange and flickering flames of red that rise up the center of the blooms. These colors seem to say that, as the sunflower extends its body toward the sun to receive an invigorating effect, the bloom cannot help but to internalize a bit of that fiery liveliness and reflect it back out onto the world, much as humans are able to do when we reach out for and invite happiness and positivity into our lives.
