THOUGHTS ON PAINTING
Reminiscent of the stories told by the likes of Mark Twain and his contemporaries about adventures on the riverbanks of Mississippi, this landscape could really be set anywhere and in any century. A seemingly abandoned or poorly maintained wood shack leans to one side behind a haphazardly constructed, unpainted picket fence, making the viewer wonder who might have lived there and what happened to the people whose abode this may have been. The painting is oil on cardboard, a pair of symbolically simple materials to capture this image on. An uncluttered image of a broken home nestled in the woods, perhaps near a large river, could be ideal company for the viewer who likes to wonder about life’s simplicity and complexity in their home office or study.
