THOUGHTS ON PAINTING
Seeing a black dog has long since been an omen of death. The Black Dog painting shown here features a disembodied face petting the dog--almost cradling it. This could signify the artist's ability to cope with the idea of death, as the expression on the face is rather neutral with perhaps just a hint of despair. This painting uses red colors on the top half near the face, seeming to symbolize a passion the artist has for life, while the black dog is surrounded by tranquil blues and greens to denote the peace that comes with death.
GETTING TO KNOW RUSUDAN KHIZANISHVILI
Born to the country of Russia in the year 1979, Rusudan Khizanishvili is a contemporary artist who lives and works in the country of Georgia. She takes her influence from a number of artists that came before her, her work a reflection of the history of art while also putting her own spin on their styles. She primarily uses oil in her paintings to create a unique texture on each one. The results are paintings that verge on nightmarish with their interesting takes of the human form and of places that appear as if they could only be real in the dream world.
