THOUGHTS ON PAINTING
The egret, or heron, holds symbolism that marks a number of qualities such as strength, longevity and patience. The Egrets painting features three egrets. The most prominent one of them sits in the foreground and stares out over the water that separates it from the other two, both of which appear to be heading in the same direction. Perhaps the artist is trying to convey a sense of straying from oneself, watching the coveted and personal values that they once held so dearly beginning to disappear down a path that the person can no longer recognize.
GETTING TO KNOW DONALD MAIER
Donald Maier is an artist who has been painting for most of his life. He began studying at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts in Newark, New Jersey, in the year 1968. He won a number of awards for his work while there, including several first place prizes. From there, he went on to show his work in a variety of solo and group exhibitions all the same. He was inspired primarily by artist Winslow Holmes and began painting water colors at a young age. Since then, his style has morphed and changed into what it is today.
